The 11th overall selection in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Balchan joins RSL after spending the last two years with the Columbus Crew.
A versatile defender capable of playing both center and outside back, Balchan had a successful 2011 campaign, playing in 19 league games – 18 of which were starts – in his rookie season. Injuries derailed his 2012, keeping him out of action for the entire year.
The Indiana University product will look to return to full health and get back on the field in 2013, when RSL will be expecting him to provide valuable depth at all four spots across the backline.
